About Murua VS

Murua VS is a red wine made with the Mazuela, Graciano and Tempranillo varieties in the D.O.Ca. Rioja made by Murua.

Owned by the Maseveu winemaking family since 1974, the Murua winery is located in the town of Elciego (álava). The family first bought it for their own enjoyment, however in 1998, José Masaveu Herrero turned it into a more professional operation that currently has 110 hectares of vineyards of different native varieties that are used to produce quality wines with their own personality.

The estate is divided into 8 vineyard sites that surround the winery. Specifically, the Murua VS grapes come from 25-year-old strains. Being planted in clay-calcareous soil and with a continental climate, they achieve a low yield of high quality.

Once the grapes reach the winery, Murua VS spontaneously ferments at a controlled temperature between 24 and 27ºC. Gentle pump-overs are then carried out. It macerates for 10 to 15 days. Finally, the wine is aged for 16 months in French oak barrels (30%) and American oak barrels (70%).

Murua VS is a concentrated red wine that is typically Rioja in style but with an innovative touch.

2021

Murua VS 2021 is a red wine that boasts a striking cherry hue with violet undertones. On the nose, it unveils alluring aromas of ripe plums and balsamic hints that lend freshness. On the palate, it is distinguished by a pleasant and flavourful entry, with a luscious and fruity profile that renders it irresistible. This is a concentrated wine that can be savoured from the very first sip, defined by the intensity of its ripe fruit flavours.

Murua VS 2020 is a cherry-coloured red wine with violet hues. On the nose, it reveals aromas of ripe fruits such as plums and blackberries, accompanied by a balsamic touch. On the palate, it offers a pleasant and flavourful entry, with a luscious and fruity profile that stands out for its concentration.                       
2019 Murua VS 2019 is a red wine that on the nose presents a bouquet evocative of ripe black fruits, complemented by balsamic nuances that contribute a refreshing character. Its palate entry is explosive and robust, and as it progresses, it reveals its harmonious balance and pleasing fullness. This red wine is velvety and alluring.
2016 Murua VS 2016 is elegant and persistent on the nose with notes of red fruits and thyme. On the palate it is soft, balanced and fresh, with a lingering finish.
2011 Robust and flavorsome. Full-bodied, replete with fruit notes and a delightful finish.

Luminous and deep ruby hue. Medium to high opacity.
