About O Gran Meín Tinto

Viña Meín Tinto is a barrel-aged red wine made by the Viña Mein winery using Brancellao and Caíño Tinto, the native varieties of the D.O. Ribeiro (Galicia).

Viña Meín is a family winery whose estate appears in Galicia’s history books as one of the first population settlements along with San Clodio, a monastery that is closely linked to the origins of Ribeiro in the 11th and 12th centuries. This winemaking tradition has been revived in recent years through the skills of Comando G. Comando G is a group of winegrowers who seek to make the best wine by expressing the character of each plot. To do this, they have 16 hectares of vineyards lying on the best slopes of the Valle del Avia (Galicia), growing native varieties to get the best out of them in both the vineyard and the winery. Currently the project is part of the Pago de Carraovejas winery.

Viña Meín Tinto comes from two small plots of almost one hectare planted on terraces in the Avia Valley. These vineyards enjoy a special microclimate with an Atlantic influence and significant temperature variation during spring and summer. The terroir is also very unique. It is made up of sabrego soil with decomposed granite, slate and decomposed schists. The vines are cultivated using environmentally friendly agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually in small boxes with the grapes selected in the vineyard itself.

The Viña Meín Tinto winemaking process stands out because it is made in different types and sizes of barrels, depending on the variety. That means it ferments separately with native yeasts in large barrels, foudres and open vats. The wine then ages for about 11 months in wood before being bottled.

O Gran Meín Tinto 2020 is a red wine boasting a captivating bright cherry hue. Upon nosing, a tapestry of balsamic aromas unfurls, interwoven with hints of wild herbs, blackberries, and ripe cherries. On the palate, it reveals itself as a red wine with a spicy and balsamic character, distinguished by its balanced acidity and smooth tannins. It is a vibrant and articulate wine, mirroring its Atlantic heritage and leaving us with a lingering and gratifying finish. Its profile is seamless and approachable, beckoning us to relish in its vivacity.

O Gran Meín Tinto 2019 is a very fine and elegant red wine. On the nose there is dark plum, blueberry and mint. The palate is fresh and vibrant, with soft tannins that leave a velvety and smooth texture. Very fine and direct, with a marked plum flavour. Long and very fresh finish.
2018

Viña Meín Tinto 2018 is a juicy red wine with a balsamic and spicy character and fruity and floral touches. On the palate it is direct, vibrant and smooth. A fresh and light mid-palate that leaves you wanting more.
2014 Immediate, with a superb first impression. It exhibits a lively acidity.

Cherry red with purplish highlights.

Characterised primarily by its balsamic and spicy notes. It also displays hints of fruit and floral undertones (violet).
