About Octogenarius

“Welcome to the smallest winery in La Rioja”, this is the motto Antonio García and Carlos Manzanares use to welcome us into Bodegas Gama, named using an acronym of their surnames. This winery has succeeded in introducing a new category of signature wines in the D.O.Ca. Rioja using hundred year old vineyards located in the Najerilla and Cárdenas valleys of La Rioja.


Their Octogenarius wine comes from vines over 85 years old that are traditionally cultivated and harvested by hand in 10kg boxes. In the winery, the grapes are selected berry by berry and fermented spontaneously for 20 days in stainless steel tanks. Afterwards, malolactic fermentation takes place on lees in new oak barrels and the aging process lasts 12 months.

With a very small production of less than 3,000 bottles, Octogenarius is presented as an authentic signature wine made from almost hundred year old vines that were in danger of extinction. A Riojan rarity that is worthy of admiration.

2014

Octogenarius 2014 is a juicy red wine with aromas of fresh red fruit, herbaceous notes and hints of spice. The palate is deep, meaty and earthy. A wine with a smooth texture and a long, persistent finish.
