About Palacios Remondo Valdelareina

Álvaro Palacios, one of Spain's most influential winemakers, has played a pivotal role in enhancing the reputation of the Rioja Baja region, now known as Rioja Oriental. This term, less pejorative and aimed at emphasizing the unique geographical and climatic characteristics of this subregion, seeks to positively differentiate it and highlight its ability to produce high-quality wines. With this intention, Álvaro works at the family winery located in the municipality of Alfaro, Palacios Remondo. Through his efforts, Rioja Oriental has emerged as a subregion renowned for its capacity to produce exceptional wines, reaffirming that innovation and tradition can coexist to elevate the prestige of the DOCa Rioja.

However, if there is one thing that defines this winery, it is its conscientious focus on two crucial elements of the subzone: garnacha and altitude. Evidence of this dedication can be found in Palacios Remondo Valdelareina, a wine that originates from the vineyard of the same name, situated at an altitude of approximately 700 meters on a steep slope of the Sierra de Yerga. The vineyard spans a total of 1.4 hectares and features 75-year-old vines growing on clay and iron-rich soils, cultivated organically. In the winery, the grapes are selected, destemmed, and crushed before fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts. The blend is predominantly composed of garnacha, with a small proportion of other traditional varieties. Finally, the wine is aged for several months in oak barrels.

This is how Palacios Remondo Valdelareina is created, a new single-vineyard red wine where the protagonists are the native garnacha variety and the altitude of the Sierra de Yerga. A gem that proudly represents the fantastic Rioja Oriental.
