About Penfolds Koonunga Hill Chardonnay

Penfolds has remained Australia’s best known winery for more than 170 years by maintaining the same philosophy. The secret lies in the technical team. Four unique winemakers who have been passing down their knowledge through the generations following the same principles. Dating back to the founder Dr. Christopher Rawson Penfolds, Max Shubert, Don Ditter, John Duval and Peter Gago have followed the same methods based mainly on blending different varieties and regions. All with the aim of achieving the highest quality. An achievement that has made their wines the most iconic in Australia.

One of these wines is Penfolds Koonunga Hill Chardonnay, a white wine sourced from multiple regions and vineyards of the Chardonnay variety, predominantly from the Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills. These vines are respectfully cultivated and harvested, and selected exclusively by hand with the aim of achieving a selection of the best batches of fruit. Then, in the winery, the grapes are fermented in French oak barrels. Once fermentation has finished, the wine spends 6 months in French oak and stainless steel tanks and ages on fine lees. It is then bottled to preserve its freshness and minerality.
