About Eterea Kripan Phincas

Eterea Kripan Phincas is a red wine crafted from a blend of tempranillo, graciano, garnacha, and viura by Bodegas Bhilar in the Rioja Alavesa region and classified under the D.O.Ca. Rioja.

Bodegas Bhilar is a winery established in 2016 by David Sampedro and Melanie Hickman in the town of Elvillar, in Álava, with the aim of highlighting the indigenous varieties of old vineyards. To achieve this, the types of soils, exposures, and altitudes of each of their vineyards are studied to convey them in their wines. A project of minimal intervention in true château style.

Eterea Kripan Phincas originates from vineyards averaging 60 years old, planted on clay-limestone soils and cultivated according to ecological principles. When the grapes are ripe, they are hand-harvested in 10 kg boxes according to the lunar calendar.

In the winery, the grapes of Eterea Kripan Phincas are vinified by differentiating the type of soil. Half of the grapes are destemmed while the rest are left with stems. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts in 1,000-litre French oak vats. Finally, the wine ages in 225 and 500-litre barrels without any additives or preservatives for 18 months and an additional 6 months in concrete.

Eterea Kripan Phincas is a red wine that beautifully expresses a landscape of high-altitude old vines. A modern-style Rioja that has gracefully integrated the tradition of using white grapes in the creation of red wines.
