Prehistórico 2021 is a creamy white wine with deep aromas of dried flowers, notes of scrubland and hints of bakery. The palate is concentrated, powerful and tense. A wine with an unctuous texture, and a long, fruity finish.

About Prehistórico

In Greek mythology, the Naiads were nymphs that inhabited fountains, rivers, streams and other bodies of fresh water. So, when Bodegas Naia was set up in 2002, they were inspired by this relationship with nature and the land that gave it its name. Located in La Seca, in the heart of Rueda, the project is closely connected to the star variety of the DO Rueda: Verdejo, and in search of the oldest vines in the region and the highest level of respect, their wines are praised for their freshness, aromatic profile and ability to pair with a wide variety of dishes.

Among all the Verdejo wines created by Bodega Naia, Prehistórico is a white wine made from very old vines. Vines with an average age of 122 years old lying at an altitude of between 750 and 800 metres on the banks of the Duero River, on clay-limestone soil with sandy layers and boulders. With a continental climate characterised by a wide temperature range between day and night, the result is a high quality, vibrant and concentrated grape. The grapes are harvested by hand into 15 kg boxes and taken to the winery straight away. There the grapes are cooled and, after sorting, destemming and pressing, the resulting must is fermented with native yeasts in used 600-litre French oak barrels. The wine is then aged for 7 months in these barrels with continuous battônnage. Finally, it is bottled without stabilising.

With a name that harks back to its origins, Prehistórico is a Verdejo from very old vines that showcases the full potential of exceptional vines. An ode to a unique native variety that has resisted the devastating pre-phylloxera better than any other.
