About Refugallo Tinto

When prestigious designer Adolfo Dominguez made the phrase “wrinkles are beautiful” his motto, he launched a collection of perfumes under his own name and began to sell new products like leather goods, underwear and eyewear, showing the world that the Dominguez family were unstoppable in the business world. This was also clear to see when his brother Francisco Javier started out in the world of wine by setting up Dominio do Bibei, a winery lying on the slopes of the river Bibei, in the Galician province of Orense (Spain), with the aim of recovering the ancient local winemaking traditions. When he started out, he spared no expense. He built a staggered winery that sat perfectly in the space and surrounded himself with a great team, including the trendy Priorat couple Sara Pérez and René Barbier.

Refugallo Tinto was born from all of this hard work. This red wine is made with the Mencía and Garnacha Tinta varieties growing on granitic soils at 200-700 metres above sea level and cultivated using respectful agriculture. In the winery, the grapes ferment at a controlled temperature and then the wine ages on lees for 20 months in used French oak barrels. It then rests in the bottle for a minimum of 18 months before being sold.

So, Refugallo Tinto is a pleasant and smooth red wine and a result of the strongest winemaking traditions of the D.O. Ribeira Sacra. An ancient wine region that has inspired Romans, monks and now even fashion entrepreneurs.
