The history of this wine may begin in the vineyards of Burgenland, yet its energy seems drawn from a lively gathering among siblings who have returned home with fresh ideas and clothes stained with the marks of the latest harvest away from home. Rennersistas Zweigelt is a red wine that dares to break the mould, play with tradition, and offer freshness unapologetically. It's one of those wines that one doesn't expect, yet it ultimately carves a place in one's memory.
The Renner & Rennersistas project is pure familial alchemy. From Gols, Austria, the third generation has transformed the legacy into a manifesto of respect for the land, manual labour, and mindful winemaking. What began with Birgit and Helmuth found in their children—first Stefanie and Susanne, then Georg—a new voice, fresh yet faithful to the cycles of nature and the life that thrives among sheep, chickens, and cover crops. Today, the winery is a place where biodynamics is not just a method, but a way of viewing and understanding wine.
Rennersistas Zweigelt makes it clear from the glass: here lies juicy fruit, wild sparkle, and a mineral undertone reminiscent of the clay and limestone from which it springs. The grapes of the zweigelt variety undergo spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel and mature on their lees in large used oak barrels, resulting in a lively wine, with aromas of blackberry, cherry, and a slightly untamed twist that suits it wonderfully. It is an atypical, flavourful, and characterful red, yet easy to love from the first sip.
Ideal for enjoying slightly chilled, accompanied by homemade pizzas, tomato-based pastas, or those dinners with friends that extend without a glance at the clock, Rennersistas Zweigelt is a wine that knows how to listen to the conversation, but also knows how to steal the spotlight if you allow it. A bottle that celebrates the everyday and turns it into a small natural revolution.
