About Roda I Blanco

The greatest achievements emerge from a continuous learning process, where trial and error is the key to success. Bodegas Roda, famous for its focus on producing red wines of great character and personality in the DOCa Rioja, goes one step further with the presentation of its first white wine, Roda I Blanco. A wine that is the result of many years of research into the orography of Haro. An area where they discovered that in the higher parts of the slopes, with poor, eroded soils that are not very good for Tempranillo, white varieties are quite at home. These are old Viura, Garnacha Blanca and Malvasía vineyards located around the winery which, thanks to several years of testing and improvement, have allowed the launch of an original, gastronomic white wine with great aging potential.

Viura is the main variety in Roda I Blanco, accompanied by a small amount of Malvasía and Garnacha Blanca, three white varieties native to Rioja from old vines planted in tertiary soils of sandstone and limestone marl. They use traditional agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness. In the winery, the selected and destemmed grapes are macerated in French oak vats and then fermented in the same vats and in French oak bocoyes. Finally, the wine is aged for 18 months in these French oak bocoyes and, once bottled, spends another 18 months developing before being released for sale.

With every sip a tribute to discovery, innovation and passion for the art of Rioja wine, Roda I Blanco is the epitome of Bodegas Roda’s courage and vision. The winery’s first white wine is the result of a perseverance that captures the essence of winemaking excellence and the character that only time and dedication can create.

 

2021

Roda I Blanco 2021 unfurls its elegance with subtlety and depth. Its aroma gradually unfolds, gaining presence in the glass and revealing notes of grapefruit, quince, and white peach, intertwined with the freshness of elderflower and a vegetal hint of rhubarb. Far from tropical exuberance, its nose is complex, delicate, and balanced. On the palate, its enveloping texture and vibrant acidity create a play of breadth and freshness, with a limestone minerality that endows it with character. Long, energetic, and with an undeniable gastronomic profile, it is a white with an autumnal soul, true to its lineage and the excellent 2021 vintage.
2020

Roda I Blanco 2020 is a creamy white wine with a bright straw yellow colour. Its aroma is intense, with citrus notes and hints of grapefruit, quince, white peach and elderflower. The palate is fresh and full, with persistent flavours that balance sweetness and bitterness, providing mineral sensations and a long, fresh aftertaste.
