About Tentenublo Blanco

Tentenublo Blanco is a white wine from D.O.Ca. Rioja, produced by Tentenublo Wines in Viñaspre, a region in Lanciego, in Rioja Alavesa.

 

Tentenublo Wines is the personal project of Roberto Oliván, a young winemaker from Álava that belongs to the new generation of young oenologists from La Rioja. In 2011, Roberto takes the reins of his mother’s old winery in Lanciego and starts to produce wines following the traditional methods of La Rioja giving them a more modern touch, looking for more freshness and with lees prevalence of the wood.

The Tentenublo winery has 7.5 hectares of its own vineyards located in the municipalities of Lanciego and Viñaspre, in the heart of Rioja Alta. Divided into 22 small plots, they cultivate varieties like Grenache, Tempranillo and Viura, along with minority varieties like the extremely rare Calagraño. The age of the vineyards ranges from 15 years to more than 100, all of them cultivated organically with minimal intervention.

 

Tentenublo Blanco is a wine made with Viura and Malvasía, from the winery’s own vineyards planted on sandy and marl soils at around 600 metres of altitude, in an Atlantic climate with Mediterranean influence.

After the manual harvest and once they arrive at the winery, the grapes are pressed manually with a vertical press. The resulting must ferments in new Hungarian oak barrels with a capacity of 300-500 litres where it remains for 5 months on its lees.

 

The amusing illustration that appears on its label expresses the meaning of its name: ‘tentenublo’ was a ringing of bells that was formerly used in some regions of Spain to ward off the hail storms that are so damaging to the vineyards.

2019

Tentenublo Blanco 2019 is a white wine defined by sumptuous aromas of ripe white fruit and hints of wildflowers. On the palate, it is vibrant, sweet, and flavorsome. This wine is eminently quaffable and boasts a most appealing acidity. 
2018 Tentenublo Blanco 2018 is a sumptuously creamy white wine exuding potent aromas of white stone fruits and citrus, complemented by delicate floral undertones and a distinct mineral essence. On the palate, it is opulent, sophisticated, and layered. A full-bodied white with a well-balanced acidity and a protracted finish.
2017 Tentenublo Blanco 2017 is a deep, creamy and mineral wine. On the nose, the aromas of ripe white fruit stand out, with light floral notes. On the palate it is fatty and voluminous, with a great acidity that makes it fresh and a little lively.
