About Tetramythos Roditis Orange

Known mainly for his work “Description of Greece”, Pausanias was a Greek geographer from the Ancient Era (110 AD) who travelled the country extensively and visited numerous cities and sanctuaries, collecting information on their geography, history, mythology, monuments and local customs. His work is an invaluable source of information for modern scholars who want to learn more about ancient Greece and its wonders. As far as the northern Peloponnese is concerned, Pausanias said the local villages were ideal for grape cultivation, latent proof of the region’s great wine-growing heritage. It is here that Panagiotis Papagiannopoulos, a prestigious minimal intervention winemaker, has created a fascinating interpretation of the local native varieties and has brought increased value to the wines born at the foot of Mount Helmos and overlooking the Gulf of Corinth.

One of the wines he makes using ancient methods, Tetramythos Roditis Orange is an orange wine from a single vineyard lying 850 metres above sea level. These are 50-year-old vines of the native Roditis variety planted in limestone soils and with a yield of only 12.5 hl/ha. The vines are cultivated using organic agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness. Once in the winery, fermentation is carried out with the stems and skins in clay amphorae, with a total extraction time of 21 days. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 6 months in neutral oak.

Just as Pausanias’s “Description of Greece” is an essential work for the historical and geographical study of Ancient Greece, so Tetramythos Roditis Orange is a key wine for understanding the richness and complexity of Greek wine culture.

2021

Tetramythos Roditis Orange 2021 is a fragrant orange wine with aromas of stone fruit, orange peel notes and hints of white pepper. The palate is creamy, energetic and powerful. A medium-bodied wine with lively acidity, firm tannins and a long finish marked by spicy, peppery notes.
