About Tilenus Godello Monteseiros

Legend has it that the Romans, captivated by the highest mountain in León (Castilla y León), saw not only a sacred mountain in Teleno but also a deity. They named it Mars Tilenus; a fusion of their warrior god Mars and the Celtic god already revered by the Astures (Celtic and pre-Celtic peoples). Gold glistened on its slopes... and today, much further down, the godello also shines.

From Dehesas (Ponferrada), where the Frías family transformed an old dairy into Bodegas Estefanía in 1999, emerges a white wine that pays tribute to that glorious past: Tilenus Godello Monteseiros. This wine is far from being produced from easy vineyards. On the contrary, it is cultivated at altitudes between 600 and 850 metres, on steep, clayey, and stony soils, where the vine barely survives to produce concentrated clusters, with character and a unique expression.

In the winery, after a gentle pressing, the must ferments in stainless steel tanks, without added yeasts and under controlled temperature. It then rests in the bottle for between 2 and 8 months before being released to the world.

The result is Tilenus Godello Monteseiros, an elegant, fresh, and direct white wine, with that joyful acidity, but also with depth, minerality, and a texture that caresses the palate. A godello that makes its mark not through excess, but through balance.

Tilenus Godello Monteseiros 2024 presents a pale, luminous yellow hue that charmingly captures the light. On the nose, it reveals fresh and vibrant aromas of apple and pear, evoking the crispness of freshly picked fruits. On the palate, its freshness is accompanied by a perfectly balanced acidity, and its long finish is pleasantly surprising for a young white wine. Recommended for the freshness and elegance it offers, it is an excellent choice for those seeking to savour the authentic flavours of godello, a grape that particularly shines in this vintage for its balance and uniqueness. This combination makes it ideal for occasions when something light yet memorable is desired.
