About Vitícola Mentridana Blanco

In earlier times, wine consumption was higher, and in the 12th century, DO Méntrida, located in the northeast of the province of Toledo, bordering Madrid and Ávila and at the foot of the Sierra de Gredos, was already emerging as a prominent wine-producing region. For four centuries, its wines were served in Madrid, not only in taverns but also in the salons of the Court's aristocracy. This glorious past, unfortunately, began to decline, leading the region to near obscurity by the 20th century.

Fortunately, today, Méntrida is experiencing a revival through initiatives like Vitícola Mentridana, under the leadership of Curro Bareño, renowned for his work at Fedellos de Couto, Ribeira Sacra. Bareño is continuing a project initiated over 20 years ago by Daniel Landi (Comando G) and has arrived in El Real de San Vicente determined to imprint his personal touch on the region's wines. Although the soils, climate, and grape varieties differ from those of Ribeira Sacra, his aim remains the same: to capture the freshness and vibrancy of the fruit in every bottle.

Among his creations, Mentridano Blanco stands out, an elegant and characterful garnacha blanca. Produced using organic practices and overseen by Bareño, it embodies the essence of DO Méntrida: an extreme continental climate that enhances grape quality. Fresh, balanced, and with its own identity, this white wine exemplifies how the region is reclaiming its historical prestige and offering new reasons to explore its wines.
