If the winery Abadía Retuerta is renowned for anything, it is for its high standards of quality. But can you imagine surpassing the sublime? We are delighted to inform you that it is indeed possible. And they have achieved this with Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial. 
 
Only the finest single-varietals of each year are included in the blend of this red wine, whose essence is flavoured with tempranillo. This local variety is complemented by other grapes such as cabernet sauvignon, syrah, merlot, and petit verdot. Their presence in the blend will vary depending on the vintage. At this stage, the sense of taste becomes an essential and decisive tool, as the blend will be determined by how well the different varieties harmonise. 
 
The character of each variety, with its nuances and peculiarities, will be prominently featured, as each is cultivated separately. In total, Abadía Retuerta manages 54 plots in Sardón de Duero, to the east of Castilla y León, at altitudes ranging from 720 to 850 metres. All these vineyards, which thrive on a diverse array of soils (limestone, clay, sand, gravel…), are unified by the Duero River, providing special conditions that create a highly favourable climate. Specifically, the vineyards of Abadía Retuerta are situated in one of the narrowest valleys, where the proximity of the slopes encourages a drop in temperatures, recording the lowest temperatures in the province of Valladolid. This cold, coupled with the dry and sunny climate prevailing during the day, aids the ripening of the varieties, especially the red ones. 
 
At Abadía Retuerta, not only is the raw material exceptional, but also the manner in which it is handled and processed, always striving to extract the best from each vine. The harvest is conducted with meticulous care, selecting only the finest grapes to be taken to the winery, directly to small stainless steel tanks, where both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation will occur. Finally, after more than a year of ageing in French and American oak barrels, Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial is bottled, becoming one of the finest red wines you can find.

Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial 2019 is a complex red wine with aromas reminiscent of wild strawberries, plums and blackberries accompanied by floral notes, balsamic nuances, hints of liquorice and woody notes of juniper and sandalwood. On the palate, it reveals elegance and complexity through a great fruity presence enveloped by fine tannins and topped by a long and pleasant palate. A round and elegant red wine with excellent aging potential.
2018

Bright and intense red in colour, Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial 2018 is a young, fresh, smooth and well-balanced red wine. The nose is clean and intense, with complex aromas of blackberry, red plum, figs, flowers and spices. The palate is full, vibrant, fresh and very smooth. Fine tannins. Long and persistent finish.
2017 Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial 2017 is an aromatic and sophisticated red wine, exuding scents reminiscent of blackberries, plums, and figs, complemented by floral undertones and spicy nuances (clove and bay leaf). On the palate, it flows with breadth and grace. A red wine characterized by ripe, refined tannins, it is both enduring and vibrant.

2014 Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial 2014 is a classic wine from the area of Ribera del Duero. A red wine with a concentrated and fruity profile, where the black fruit perfectly integrates with the ageing time, resulting in a splendid wine.

Fresh and flavoursome. Balanced showing noble and well-defined tannins. Great character, long and perseverant.



An attractive cherry red. Intense, clean and bright with a fine tear.

Presence of black and red fruit compote. Mineral and balsamic undertones, with floral touches.
2010 Sound on the palate, this wine is fresh, tasty and balanced. Good acidity. Some fine, direct and well defined tannins. Very long and persistant finish. A wine with strong character, harmonious.

Piccota cherry colour, with high intensity. Clean and bright, showing fine tears on the glass.

An intense and very pleasant nose. This red wine is fragrant, fine and frank. Black and red fruit jam with mineral and balsamic notes. This is a red wine very representative of the terroir of Ribera del Duero, with floral and spicy touches.

2008 Friendly, expressive and powerful attack with a pleasant, silky and tasty mid palate. Good load of fruit with well integrated notes of wood which deliver nice creamy notes. Nice and ripe tannins. Very expressive, with a soft acidity. Very good trajectory in the mouth. Long, lingering and pleasant finish with a spicy aftertaste. Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial 2008 is a wine of great elegance.


Dark red with maroon trims. Very intense and bright. Dense tears.

Attractive and highly complex. It shows a permanent background of fruit, especially red, which is noticed along with some delicate notes of wood that provide it with smothness, notes provided by the oak (leather, roasted coffee, vanilla, toffee,...). Subtle balsamic touches that provide it with a touch of freshness.
2007

Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial 2007 has a greedy and powerful attack. Soft, fleshy and nice mid palate, with a great presence of fruits along with creamy notes. Fine tannins. Concentrated and well balanced wine with a long and intense persistence.



Dark cherry colour trimmed with purple tones. Brilliant. Dense and quite slow legs.

This wine from Ribera del Duero has an intense and complex nose with a wide range of fruit aromas among which the notes of forest fruit and fine spices stand out. In the background, very elegant notes of vanilla, toffee, dairy products, chocolate and toasted are noticed. Some touches of balsamic and red peppers.
2006 Fleshy mouth, round, structured, tannic power. Long and creamy finish.

Dark cherry color.
