Abadía Retuerta Pago Garduña is a red wine crafted by the winery Abadía Retuerta in Sardón de Duero (Valladolid), within the DOP Abadía Retuerta (Castilla y León).
Abadía Retuerta embarked on its journey in 1996, with vineyards planted a few years earlier, in 1991 and 1994. In this year, it began classifying soils based on their composition and altitude, starting to treat them individually with an eye towards subsequent vinification.
The vineyards of Abadía Retuerta are situated at altitudes ranging from 700 to 850 metres, and the climate in this region is predominantly continental, with winters generally cold and summers hot, creating an ideal climate for the optimal ripening of the grape and the balance of the vine.
These conditions, combined with the cutting-edge technology of one of Europe's most advanced wineries, result in exceptional wines, embodying the full character of the terroir and the potential of each variety.
Abadía Retuerta Pago Garduña is a red wine made from Syrah, sourced from the Pago de Garduña vineyard, which is located on limestone soils.
Following the harvest, a grape selection is conducted on a sorting table. After being destemmed, the grapes undergo maceration for 25 days. The must ferments at a temperature of 28°C, followed by malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels from Allier, where it will also undergo ageing for over a year.
