About Aciano

This wine is aged for 12 months in used French oak barrels. Aciano is a red wine produced by Alvar de Dios Hernández in El Pego, within the D.O Toro.

After working in several different wineries, Alvar de Dios decided to start his own personal project, demonstrating the value of the old vines owned by his grandfather in the town of El Pego. His clear effort towards an organic-biodynamic cultivation and a classic production, result in fine and tasty wines. Alvar de Dios has managed to position himself amongst the most important winemakers of the area.

Aciano comes from a 3-hectare pre-phylloxera vineyard area that was owned by his grandfather, predominantly planted with the Tinta de Toro variety and others like Grenache, Mencía, etc. which are ungrafted and over 100 years old. The winemaking process is carried out in a traditional way, fermenting with its own yeasts and with a balanced maceration. It is aged in used oak barrels so that the wine is stabilised and so that it can gain complexity.

2019

Aciano 2019 is a succulent red wine boasting an olfactory bouquet brimming with wild berries, hints of violet florals, and nuances of aromatic herbs. On the palate, it is stern, expansive, and invigorating. A wine characterized by its granular and sandy tannins. The finish is protracted, arid, and imbued with a mineral essence.
2017 Aciano 2017 is a smooth red wine with aromas of wild berries, flowers and aromatic herbs. On the palate it is fresh, delicious and very mineral. A dry, austere wine with expressive tannins and a long and persistent finish.
2016 Aciano 2016 is one of the most balanced wines of Toro. In this vintage, maturity, fruit and ageing in barrels perfectly come together to offer you a great, tasty, complex and lingering wine.
