About Algueira Dolio

So at Bodegas Algueira they can feel proud of their work because one of their wines, Algueira Dolio 2019, has found itself in wine mecca, taking 21st place among the 100 best Spanish wines of 2023. An exemplary winery in the DO Ribeira Sacra that has fought harder than anyone else to recover forgotten vines on steep slopes of up to 85% and, as a result, has gained international recognition.

The fruit of steeply sloping terraces in a unique landscape that was abandonned after the Spanish Civil War, Algueira Dolio is a blend of the native Mencía, Brancellao, Sousón, Caíño and Garnacha Tintorera varieties grown in rich, varied soils of quartz, gneiss, slate and schist. A delicate and constant work of recovery with the aim of reflecting the enormous potential of the Ribeira Sacra. Heroic agriculture is practiced, overcoming the spectacular slopes along the banks of the river Sil. In the winery, the whole bunches are crushed ​and fermented in cone-shaped oak vats with native yeasts, after which the wine matures in 225-litre barrels and 2,000-litre foudres for 24 months.

With its inclusion on the prestigious Suckling list of the best Spanish wines, Algueira Dolio has proven to be much more than an exceptional wine. The result of an effort to recover forgotten vineyards through heroic viticulture, this blend of native varieties is a masterful representation of the region’s potential. A true pride point for the winery and a jewel for Ribeira Sacra lovers.

Its profile shows remarkable structure with good grip and fine tannins combined with moderate ripeness.
