About Alonso & Pedrajo Nauda Viura

The term cyanotype may sound novel, yet it is an art form with nearly two centuries of history. In 1842, astronomer William Herschel discovered, while experimenting with photosensitive iron salts, that he could fix images stained with an intense blue hue. This almost magical photographic technique has re-emerged today as a trend among artists and creators due to its simplicity and beauty: all it takes is a ray of sunlight and a bit of chemistry to capture the silhouette of a plant, a flower, or any object on paper.

This bluish magic has also found its way into the world of wine. Alonso & Pedrajo—the project initiated in 2013 by Javier Alonso and Alberto Pedrajo alongside their families—was born with an artisanal vision, committed to breaking the mould. And when it comes to breaking the mould, Alonso & Pedrajo Nauda Viura is the perfect example.

This wine features a unique label, crafted with cyanotype and imprinted with the plants of La Finca La Cala, the very place where it originates. It is a single-varietal viura that turns orange after a prolonged maceration with its skins. The philosophy is as clear as it is radical: Alonso & Pedrajo Nauda Viura is grape and nothing else. No additives, no clarification, no filtering, no embellishment.

Alonso & Pedrajo Nauda Viura is a "raw" wine, youthful in spirit and profound in essence. Like the blue images fixed by cyanotype, this orange wine is an indelible imprint of time, the land, and the people who make it possible.
