About L'Ermita

Álvaro Palacios L'Ermita transcends the boundaries of a mere wine to become an object of desire, an exclusive, cult piece, coveted by many and attained by very few.
 
Álvaro Palacios L'Ermita is the magnum opus of Álvaro Palacios in the D.O.Q. Priorat. A sublime red wine, crafted from the Garnacha variety with a small percentage of cariñena and some white varieties. The grapes used for its production come from a small plot of just over 2 hectares with slate soils and very old vines, between 75 and 100 years old, located in the village of Gratallops.
 
The limited yield from this plot is meticulously selected. The chosen grapes are destemmed and gently crushed. The varieties are vinified separately. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in small wooden vats, with punch-downs applied to extract as much color and fruit as possible. Malolactic fermentation and subsequent aging occur in new French oak barrels for a period of 18 months.

2016

L'Ermita 2016 is a concentrated red wine with a somewhat shy nose with notes of blue and violet fruits. The palate reveals great concentration with an impressive integration of fruit and tannins. A medium-bodied wine with marvellous acidity, a silky mid-palate and a long, persistent finish.
2010 Very tasty and spicy palate. Elegant and very fine tannins. Full in the mouth. Long finish.

1996 Very large, enveloping attack. Velvety and very tasty mid palate, with concentrated notes of fruit and well balanced notes of wood. Good acidity and integrated tannins. A complex and elegant wine with a long and lingering aftertaste, and hints of minerality provided by the terroir. L'Ermita is the purest expression of the Priorat slate soils.

Intense and dark cherry colour, almost purple, with orange trims. Bright. Very high robe and dense tear.

Deep and intense nose. The initial aromas of smoked and fruit gain force when it opens up, highlighting the notes of ripe red and black fruits. Its very good and well integrated toasted notes provided by the wood, along with a light minerality give elegance to this wine.
