About Andrea Mufatto MA Blanco

More often than not, if not almost always, you will have heard her surname linked to that of her husband. Gerardo Michelini and Andrea Mufatto have been making waves in the wine world for years; however, from now on, and undoubtedly with increasing frequency, her surname will begin to resonate independently. And rightly so! A wine like Andrea Mufatto MA Blanco truly deserves it.
 
In a completely independent project, this oenologist, accustomed to working with Argentina's red varieties, dares to present a new rendition of the white wines from D.O. Bierzo. The godello, doña blanca, and palomino will be the three varieties Mufatto selects for this endeavour. Finding the right clusters will not be easy, particularly since the doña blanca is scattered across various vineyards. In the case of godello and doña blanca, the vines are located in Villafranca del Bierzo (León), while the palomino is harvested in Santalla del Bierzo (in the southern part of the designation). In both instances, these are century-old vineyards growing on sloped soils with a loamy-silt texture, where quartzites and slates intermingle.
 
Once harvested, and after being organically cultivated, the varieties for Andrea Mufatto MA Blanco ferment separately. The must from each is transferred to different tanks and will reunite at the time of blending, aiming to achieve the perfect balance. Once assembled, Andrea Mufatto MA Blanco will rest for a year in new oak barrels.
