In front of a vineyard, we all envision the labour behind a fine bottle of wine: harvests, fermentations, barrels… Yet few consider what transpires before the vine even exists. This is where agricultural service companies come in, the true unsung heroes who prepare the soil, move the earth, adjust slopes, manage irrigation, and attend to everything necessary for the vines to grow healthy and content, ready to yield quality grapes.
In Italy, few can match the expertise of the Fronti family. With proud rural roots, Bruno Fronti founded Agrichianti in 1959, an agricultural services company that began to flourish with the collaboration of his sons, Fabio and Stefano. Today, the company is well-established, engaging in everything from earthworks to the management of vineyards and green spaces, blending tradition and technique with a modern outlook.
However, the Frontis did not merely prepare the land for others. In 1982, they purchased small plots in Radda in Chianti (Tuscany) to plant their own vineyards. For years, all the wine produced was sold in bulk, except for a small amount reserved by the family for domestic use. It wasn't until 2009 that Angela Fronti, the next generation, decided to take charge and bottle the family wine, transforming that domestic tradition into a personal and professional venture. Today, they cultivate 26 hectares certified organic since 2016, proving that respect for the land and family passion can go hand in hand.
The outcome is remarkable, as reflected in their Angela Fronti Istine Levigne Chianti Classico Riserva. A wine made entirely of sangiovese, born from schist soils with alternating marly limestones and slight percentages of clay, worked under the strictest ecological criteria. Each plot is hand-harvested and vinified separately, ensuring each bunch reaches the concrete tank with maximum freshness. After 15 days of controlled fermentation and 45 days of maceration with the skins, the wine rests for 12 months in 20 hl Slavonian oak barrels and another 12 months in 30 hl barrels, completing at least a year of bottle ageing before being released to the market.
Angela Fronti Istine Levigne Chianti Classico Riserva is elegant, profound, and authentic. A Chianti Classico that speaks of landscape, history, and the passion of one who knows every root of their vines.
