Antoine Lienhardt Gevrey-Chambertin is a natural red wine made by Domaine Antoine Lienhardt with the Pinot Noir variety in the AOC Gevrey-Chambertin/Côte-d'Or, in Burgundy.
When Antoine Lienhardt took over his grandfather’s vineyards in the Côte de Nuits town of Comblanchien, he thought they were vastly undervalued, and he was convinced that if he cultivated his vines and made his wines as if they were Grand Crus, he could produce something that would exceed the denomination’s reputation. The results came quickly and a year later his winery became a benchmark for natural Burgundy wines.
Antoine Lienhardt Gevrey-Chambertin comes from 50-60 year old vines planted in clay and limestone soils and cultivated according to ecological and biodynamic principles. Yields are limited as much as possible and the soils are worked with a horse and plough. The harvest is manual and the grape bunches are selected in the vineyard.
To make the Antoine Lienhardt Gevrey-Chambertin wine, the whole clusters undergo gentle macerations and without too much extraction. Fermentation takes place spontaneously in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts and no sulphur. The wine then ages for 16 months in French oak barrels, a small amount of which are new. It is bottled without clarifying or filtering.
Antoine Lienhardt Gevrey-Chambertin is a beautiful example of the great sulphite-free work from Lienhardt in his Côte de Nuits vineyards. A lively and energetic wine that is attracting the attention of those who love sulphite-free Burgundy wines.
