About As Sortes

As Sortes is a white wine from D.O. Valdeorras made by Rafael Palacios winery. Rafael Palacios is a part of a family with a great wine tradition. The son of José Palacios Remondo, founder of the Bodegas Palacios Remondo in La Rioja and the brother of álvaro Palacios, who is known for production of one of the most well-known wines in Spain from their Priorat winery: L'Ermita.
Rafael Palacios winery is located in Valle del Bibei, in the province of Orense in Galicia.
As Sortes is a single variety Godello, a variety that was virtually abandoned, and it was recovered in the 80s.
The grapes are grown in a small estate on very old vines that are up to 90 years old and have been cultivated with respect of the land, without using any type of herbicide or pesticide.
álvaro Palacios have restored this neglected marvellous estate with sandy soils of decomposed granite.
As Sortes undergoes an aging for 8 months in French oak barrels; an aging that is done on its own lees.
An excellent white wine. An unknown variety but with a great potential. As Sortes is a dry white with a marvellous extraction and a long life.

2019 As Sortes 2019 is a white wine sculpted with intricate aromas of yellow fruit, citrus, sweet spiced notes, and mineral undertones. On the palate, it is forthright, vigorous, and crisp. A wine of incisive acidity, taut and with a saline texture in its finish, which is exceedingly flavorful and moreish.
2013 On the palate it is broad, intense, full and unctuous, but shows a great elegance.
White fruit, pear, some citric and marvellous mineral notes.
Marvellous acidity and a long and persistent finish.

Golden yellow colour; clean and bright.

As Sortes is complex on the nose. Ripe fruit, light floral aromas, mineral, some sweet spices and certain toasted notes.
2012 In the mouth, it is intense, elegant and deep. This white wine has an oily and unctuous texture, with an excellent acidity that makes it fresh and sharp. Very long and very persistent finish with mineral notes at retro-olfaction.

Golden colour with new gold colour reflections and waxen edges. Clean and very bright. It has elegant tears.

Highly intense, suggestive and fragrant nose. Its aromas of yellow stone fruit, citrus and tropical fruits stand out along with pleasant floral notes on a background of mineral notes with light toasted nuances, subtle hints of sweet spices such as vanilla and soft vegetal touches.
2011 In the mouth, it is intense and has an oily and unctuous texture. Its excellent acidity makes it fresh and sharp. Very long and very persistent finish with mineral notes at retro-olfaction. Elegant, deep and highly expressive white wine.
