About Avignonesi Poggetto di Sopra Nobile di Montepulciano

With the intention of strengthening the identity and reputation of their terroir, six prestigious wineries in Montepulciano, in Tuscany (Italy), have come together to form the "Noble Alliance". This initiative aims to bring visibility to the high-quality wines of the region, focusing not only on the finest grapes but also on the crafting of unparalleled wines. One of these wineries, Avignonesi, is the largest biodynamic winery in Italy. Although the project began in the 1970s, it reached its pinnacle in 2009 under the leadership of Virginie Saverys. Under her guidance, this winery with a rich tradition has fully embraced biodynamic viticulture, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and authenticity in every bottle. This dedication has ensured wines of the highest quality.

The wine Avignonesi Poggetto di Sopra Nobile di Montepulciano comes from a single plot planted in 1978, known as Poggetto di Sopra. The Sangiovese vines are planted in alkaline clay soil rich in silt, limestone, and prehistoric marine sediments, and are cultivated using organic and homeopathic treatments. Harvesting and selection are done manually at the optimal ripeness, and in the winery, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with maceration on the skins for up to 28 days. Finally, the wine matures in oak barrels for 24 months.

With a wonderful tension in the wine that is as delicate as it is intense, Avignonesi Poggetto di Sopra Nobile di Montepulciano perfectly showcases the terroir of Montepulciano. Its secret? Unique vineyards and a commitment to reflecting their origin through deep love and respect for the environment.

Avignonesi Poggetto di Sopra Nobile di Montepulciano 2019 is a bright ruby red wine with garnet highlights. On the nose, it presents impressive aromas of blueberries, cherries, cloves, and thyme. On the palate, it is dense and complex, with a clear focus on ripe fruits and a notable minerality. Its smooth, well-integrated tannins evoke velvet and silk. This vibrant and concentrated wine reveals its noble origin with each sip, promising a beautiful potential.
