About Badenhorst Family White Blend

Badenhorst Family White Blend is an organic barrel-aged white wine made by A.A. Badenhorst in the South African region of Swartland (Coastal Region) with the Viognier, Roussanne, Garnacha Blanca, Clairette, Marsanne, Chenin Blanc and Verdello varieties.

Badenhorst Family was set up by cousins Hein and Adi Badenhorst who, after training in different wineries, decided to restore their grandparents’ old farm to make their own wines using organic viticulture and minimal intervention vinification. This project is part of the Swartland Revolution, a movement that encompasses a new generation of South African winemakers and that is giving this region an international reputation.

Badenhorst Family White Blend comes mostly from old vines planted between the 1950s and 1960s on hillsides with clay and decomposed granite soils. They use organic farming with organic and biological products and without any pesticides or herbicides. Each grape is harvested manually in small boxes at its optimum point of ripeness.

Badenhorst Family White Blend grapes are immediately taken to the winery and refrigerated overnight. The next day they are pressed with the stems and the resulting must is transferred to old 1,200 and 3,000-litre foudres to begin fermentation and aging over 15 months. Finally the wines are mixed in concrete tanks with their lees and left to rest for 6-8 months before bottling.

Badenhorst Family White Blend is a mixture of traditional white varieties from the Coastal Region where the Chenin Blanc is the most prominent. An ode to the white varieties of South Africa.
2015 Badenhorst Family White Blend 2015 is a white wine with aromas of stone fruits, citrus flowers, spices and tea leaves. On the palate it is complex with soft tannins and a long and enveloping flavour.
