Barbazul Selección Especial 2020 is introduced as a red wine imbued with a jovial character and a certain lightness. As we approach it, we are greeted by an aromatic complexity where subtle spices, the freshness of summer fruits such as cherries and blackberries, and a distinctive hint of fig leaves stand out. The oak is present but not overpowering. On the palate, it delights us with a harmony of flavour and vivacity, exhibiting a robust structure and a fullness that envelops the palate. Its finish is extended, leaving an aftertaste of fine woods and the memory of ripe fruits.

About Barbazul Selección Especial

Huerta de Albalá came into being due to the personal dream of Vicente Taberner, a Valencian who founded his own winery in 2000 in the town of Arcos de la Frontera, Cadiz, with the aim of extolling the quality of wines from Cadiz. A region characterized by long hours of sunshine, he opted for unique wines that would stand out from the rest due to their great concentration of color and aroma, as well as their power and elegance. A pioneer in cultivating native red grapes, thanks to his dedication he achieved quality wines linked to the territory, just as admired as other great Spanish wines.

Barbazul Selección Especial is one of its flagship wines. Produced from vines planted in the Sierra de Grazalema, 150 meters above sea level, the area boasts breathtaking beauty and ideal characteristics for growing vines due to its clay soils and the microclimate produced by proximity to the mountains and the lake of Bornos. Once the grapes have been harvested by hand, they’re selected, destemmed and crushed in order to start the vinification process. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation is carried out at a controlled temperature and then the wine is aged for 6 months in French Allier oak barrels.

Barbazul Selección Especial is the perfect candidate for representing the Cádiz wine region. A flavorsome and persistent blend of red varieties where the enthusiasm of Vicente Taberner is still present.

2016

Barbazul Selección Especial 2016 is a pleasant red wine with complex aromas of ripe black fruit, spiced notes and a woody background. On the palate, it’s flavorsome, fresh and with a good fruit load. A wine with volume, superb acidity and a long finish with remarkable tenacity.
