Barón de Chirel Verdejo is a white wine produced by the winery Herederos del Marqués de Riscal in the municipality of Rueda, with denomination V.T. Castilla y León.
Herederos del Marqués de Riscal is the winery of the Marqués de Riscal group, which is in charge of producing white wines in the area of Rueda and Castilla y León.
In the 1970s, Marqués de Riscal decides to make its first white wine, choosing the area of Rueda for its quality. They currently have 230 hectares of their own vineyards, with the Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc varieties. They also manage 250 more hectares in La Seca, Rueda, Serrada and Rodilana, where they produce 5 white wines in the D.O. Rueda and V.T. Castilla y León.
Barón de Chirel Verdejo is a wine made from 100% Verdejo from pre-phylloxera vines located in Aldeanueva del Codonal and Aldehuela, province of Segovia. They are planted on granite and sandy soils at 850-900 metres of altitude.
They are manually harvested and placed in 20 kg boxes. In the winery, bunches and grapes go through two selection processes. For the traditional winemaking process, only the first must is used. This wine is aged for 6 months in French oak barrels of 300 and 600 litres of capacity, and also in 3000-litre vats where it is left on its fine lees, carrying out three batonnage processes per week.
Barón de Chirel Verdejo is a creamy, tasty, long lasting wine. Excellent balance between the variety and the ageing aromas, with the freshness provided by the high altitude of the vineyard.
