About Barraco Terre Siciliane Biancammare

Marsala, an Italian municipality in the province of Trapani, on the west coast of Sicily, is mainly known for making a fortified wine of the same name that was created for the English market as a substitute for the popular sherry. However, thanks to people like Nino Barraco, a new generation winemaker, there has recently been some recovery work that is giving us chance to get to know the personality, character and regional nuances of the wines that were made before the British taste for sweetness became fashionable. To this end, Nino and his partner Ángela took over the family vineyards in 2004 and, using respectful artisan methods, their focus was on cultivating native grapes and making natural wines from individual vineyards.

Today the wines made by Barraco have become must-haves that perfectly represent the Sicilian wine region. Their Barraco Terre Siciliane Biancammare, a white wine made from the native Grillo variety, demonstrates this perfectly. Coming from vines that are 40 years old and planted on red soils rich in limestone 30 metres from the sea, the grapes are grown organically with biodynamic treatments. The grapes are harvested and selected by hand and, once they reach the winery, Nino’s aim is simply to guide the wine from the vineyard to the glass. Fermentation takes place spontaneously with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks with a two day skin-contact maceration. The wine spends 6 months there before being bottled.

Barraco Terre Siciliane Biancammare is the result of craftsmanship at each and every stage of the process and transports you to Marsala. An aromatic, pure and citrusy white wine that will show you a slice of Sicily.

Barraco Terre Siciliane Biancammare 2020 is a defined white wine with delicate aromas of white fruit, floral notes and hints of iodine. A pleasantly drinkable wine that is dry, fresh and flavoursome on the palate with a deliciously saline finish.
