About Benoit Courault La Grande Maile

The vineyards possess their own vitality. They grow, evolve, and adapt to the climate, the soil, and each season. A skilled vintner does not control them but rather synchronises with their rhythms and whims. This philosophy guides Benoit Courault in his few hectares in Faye d’Anjou, in the Loire (France), and it is precisely how La Grande Maile came into being.

Benoit tends to his vines like an ardent gardener: infusions, green manures, horse-drawn ploughing... all designed to honour the life of the plant. The selection of plant material is meticulous, and in the winery, intervention is minimal: fermentation in vats and barrels, bottling with just a touch of sulphite, without clarification or filtration. The estate holds the Nature et Progrès organic certification, yet Benoit prefers to let the wine speak for itself.

Following the historic cuvée Les Rouliers, Benoit decided to retain only the plot he deems the finest of cabernet franc, on the main slope of Faye d’Anjou, neighbouring the prestigious Le Clos des Mailles of Pierre Ménard. From this small corner of land, with its unique soil and climate, emerges La Grande Maile, a wine that embodies the life of the vineyard: fresh, mineral, with a fluid and natural texture.

La Grande Maile is the living testament to the patience, passion, and authenticity of a vintner who adapts to, respects, and accompanies the vineyard. It is a wine that is not only born from the earth; it is born from listening to it.
