About Bimbache Chivo Tinto

In the far west of the Canary Islands, where the Atlantic winds fiercely and volcanoes carve a unique landscape, lies an ancient legacy: the bimbache. This was the name given to the first inhabitants of the island of El Hierro (Canary Islands), an indigenous people linked to the Berbers of North Africa, whose cultural and genetic heritage still leaves its mark on the island. Today, that history is also found in the wines, and Bimbache Vinícola ensures it remains alive.

The project of Rayco Fernández is an enthralling vinous venture. In a region that spans altitudes from 100 to 1,000 metres, his winery stands as a small paradise for the native grape varieties, working with a diversity of volcanic soils that impart a distinctive character to their wines.

Bimbache Chivo Tinto is a clear embodiment of this philosophy. This blend primarily combines listán negro, cultivated in vineyards aged between 20 and 40 years, with verijadiego negro and baboso negro sourced mainly from the island's south. Together, these varieties convey the essence of El Hierro's reds: freshness, volcanic minerality, and a vibrant profile that mirrors the strength and diversity of the terroir.

The wine is crafted with a respectful approach to nature, championing sustainability and the care of native vineyards. Each bottle is a tribute to the island, its people, and its viticultural traditions. With Bimbache Chivo Tinto, Rayco and his team are rewriting the vinous memory of El Hierro. It is a red that breathes the island's authenticity, a wine that connects with the past, the land, and the character of its people.

2023

Bimbache Chivo Tinto 2023 transports you directly to the Canary Islands with its distinctive personality and volcanic character. Upon opening the bottle, fresh aromas of red fruits such as cherry and strawberry intermingle with an intriguing hint of gunpowder, evoking landscapes of mineral-rich terrain. On the palate, it is light, maintaining a fine balance between acidity and freshness, making it perfect for enjoyment on various occasions. The 2023 vintage has been particularly kind, offering an ideal aromatic intensity and a freshness reminiscent of an Atlantic breeze. Ideal for those seeking a wine with authenticity and unique character.
