About Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

The first Gutenberg press, the inaugural film by the Lumière brothers, the maiden flight of the Wright brothers... the pioneers always pave the way. They open up new possibilities, challenge the status quo, and leave a legacy that inspires those who follow.

In the world of wine, that pioneering role in Tuscany was played by Clemente Santi and his grandson Ferruccio Biondi Santi. In 1865, Clemente had the bold idea of crafting a red wine using solely sangiovese grapes, laying the foundation for what we now know as Brunello di Montalcino. Years later, Ferruccio took this vision a step further by planting the first vineyard in Montalcino composed exclusively of this variety, solidifying the region's and the wine's identity.

The impact of this work was so significant that, in 1932, a report by the Ministry of Agriculture on Tuscan viticulture officially recognised the Biondi-Santi family as the creators of the first Brunello. More than a century later, that pioneering philosophy remains alive, passed down from generation to generation and reflected in every bottle.

Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a full expression of this legacy. It is crafted exclusively from selected grapes from their own vineyards, sourced from the oldest plots of the Tenuta Greppo estate, capturing the full character of the terroir and the maturity of historic vineyards.

Fermentation takes place in vertical Slavonian oak barrels, using indigenous yeasts selected from the vineyards themselves, ensuring the wine faithfully expresses the essence of its origin. After vinification, the Riserva ages for 3 years in Slavonian oak barrels, developing structure, elegance, and a complexity that make it a genuine testament to the winemaking artistry of Biondi-Santi.

Complex, profound, and enduring, Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a grand Brunello di Montalcino with great character. A true icon of Tuscan viticulture.
