About Boris Champy Beaune 1er Cru Aux Coucherias 2018

It is clear that sport, as well as improving physical fitness, also lifts your spirit and your mood, thanks to the release of endorphins in the brain. Add to this the fresh air, and a triathlete is naturally a very happy person. And this is even more true for Boris Champy because he shares his passion for running, swimming and cycling with his work in the vineyard. Originally from Champagne and with a degree in enology, he worked for 10 years in Napa Valley (California) as technical director of Maison Louis Latour and manager and winemaker of Clos des Lambrays. He then acquired the domain founded in 1984 by Didier Montchovet and it became his winery carrying his name. A faithful advocate of biodynamics, his estate was the first in Burgundy to receive Demeter biodynamic certification and, with the aim of improving the reputation of the Hautes-Cotes, he takes great care to show the subtle differences between the climates and terroirs of his estate through his wines.

Located in Nantoux, in the Côte de Beaune (Burgundy), he produces delicious wines like this Boris Champy Beaune 1er Cru Aux Coucherias. A single-variety Pinot Noir from a vineyard called Coucherias. This name, which means sunset in French, came about because the vineyard faces west, towards the setting sun. These vines were planted in the 1950s on very steep clay and limestone soil, and are cultivated following biodynamic principles. The grapes are harvested by hand and, once they reach the winery, 50% of the grapes are left without destemming. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts and the wine is aged in French oak barrels for 12 months.

Part of the AOC Beaune 1er Cru / Côte-d'Or, Boris Champy Beaune 1er Cru Aux Coucherias is pleasantly smooth, mature and sensual. A Pinot Noir where the wood is dominant but extremely elegant, the result of the passion and discipline of a triathlete and winemaker who, as in sport, gives his whole body and soul to his domain.

Boris Champy Beaune 1er Cru Aux Coucherias 2018 is a smooth red wine with aromas of ripe red and black fruit, notes of cocoa and hints of sweet spice. On the palate it is smooth, fresh and elegant. A balanced and coherent wine with bright acidity, smooth tannins and noticeable but well-integrated oak.
