About Bouza Cocó

Galicians are found everywhere, and wherever they have settled, they have always left their mark. In the case of Juan Luis Bouza López, the son of Galician immigrants, this mark is evident in one of the most acclaimed viticultural ventures in Uruguay. The story began with a bakery and fresh pasta factory, the family's first business, which over time transformed into a renowned food industry. Yet, the passion for creating and leaving a legacy did not stop there.

In 1998, after selling the family business, Juan Bouza and his wife Elisa Trabal decided to turn their focus towards grape and wine production. They purchased an old vineyard, acquired an ancient winery near Montevideo, and in 2002, they restored and equipped it to receive their first harvest the following year. Thus, a project was born that combines tradition, dedication, and a love for the Uruguayan land.

Bouza Cocó is a tribute to Cocó, Juan's mother, who enjoyed blending chardonnay and albariño in her glass while cooking. This wine is a blend of these two varieties cultivated in vineyards in Canelones and Montevideo, on loam-clay soils with limestone presence and good natural drainage, allowing a balance between vigour and concentration and controlled yields that enhance the quality of the grape. Moreover, the Atlantic climate supports balanced ripening, preserving freshness and vibrant aromas.

Once in the winery, the chardonnay ferments in new French barrels for 9 months, developing structure and ageing notes, while the albariño ferments in stainless steel, retaining its freshness and fruity character.
