About Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Asili

To speak of Bruno Giacosa is to delve into the most authentic heart of Piedmont. His journey began early, almost inevitably: at just 15 years old, he was already purchasing grapes for his father's wines, learning the craft from its roots, with hands stained by must and the patience that only time can teach. In 1960, he decided to forge his own path and, in no time, established himself as one of the great figures of Barbaresco, rubbing shoulders with legendary names like Gaja and the historic cooperative Produttori del Barbaresco.

But above all, Giacosa's pioneering spirit was etched into history in 1964, when he became the first producer in Piedmont to bottle a single-vineyard cru: the legendary Santo Stefano. This act not only marked a turning point in the region but also reaffirmed a philosophy that would accompany him throughout his life: utmost respect for tradition, minimal intervention, and an unyielding pursuit of the purest expression of the terroir.

This ethos is clearly manifested in Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Asili, a wine born from the historic Asili vineyard in Langhe, Piedmont. Giacosa, one of the last great traditionalists of Piedmontese winemaking, shuns the prominence of small barrels and champions an honest and precise vinification. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, the wines are unfiltered, and ageing occurs in large French oak barrels—a progression from the traditional Slovenian oak—that accompany the wine without imposing their voice.
