About Majuelo El Espejo

At times, trends arrive like a whirlwind, sweeping us into what seems to be the latest fad, yet often steering us away from authenticity. The verdejo, a gem from the Rueda region in Castilla y León, exemplifies how a grape variety can become fashionable, consequently losing part of its essence. In recent years, we have witnessed numerous single-variety verdejo wines being excessively processed in a quest for perfection, neglecting the terroir and the grape's natural character.

Fortunately, there are still those who refuse to follow this trend and remain loyal to their tradition. The Cantalapiedra family, with several generations of winemakers in the Rueda area, is a prime example. In 1949, Heliodoro, at just 15 years old, planted his first vineyard, laying the foundation for what is now a winery that embodies the true essence of verdejo. Following him, his son Isaac continued the legacy, and in 2014, together with his son Manuel, they established their own winery to market terroir-driven wines crafted from the purest verdejo variety.

One of the most outstanding examples of their work is Majuelo El Espejo, a unique wine originating from a vineyard cultivated organically at an altitude of 750 metres. With sandy and clay soil, and a subsoil of marl and limestone, the wine perfectly reflects the terroir. The manual harvesting of the grapes, the vinification process in French oak barrels without temperature control, and the 11-month aging in these barrels are evidence of a respectful approach to nature, without haste or unnecessary processes. Finally, it rests for an additional 7 months in stainless steel.

Majuelo El Espejo has not been clarified or filtered, making it a genuine reflection of its origin. A verdejo that breathes history, passion, and commitment to the land. Because, in the end, what truly matters is not following trends, but being true to oneself.

On the palate, it is intense and creamy, with an enveloping texture that invites continued enjoyment.
