During the Roman era, Trebula wine, meaning "homemade wine," was far more than just a beverage: it was a symbol of strength and endurance. Derived from the trebbiano variety (or Trebulanum), this wine became a favourite among legionaries due to its wide availability and high production yields. With its straightforward and approachable taste, it was consumed not only to accompany meals but also as a source of energy and nutrition during long campaigns. Upholding this legacy of simplicity, authenticity, and connection to the land, today, Cantina Orsogna in Abruzzo (Italy) revives the ancient tradition of Trebula wine under the Lunaria brand. With a focus on crafting natural, biodynamic, and sustainable wines, this winery is committed to producing wines that not only respect the environment but also highlight the purity of the terroir in one of Italy's most authentic wine regions.
Their wine, Cantina Orsogna Lunaria Charisma Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, is a single-varietal trebbiano cultivated under Demeter certification, adhering to strict biodynamic methods with natural preparations, specific composts, crop rotation, and a keen attention to the lunar and planetary cycles to determine the optimal times for planting, harvesting, and working the land. In the winery, fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks, and afterwards, the wine remains in these same vessels for 6 months before bottling.
Cantina Orsogna Lunaria Charisma Trebbiano d'Abruzzo is a wine that reflects the essence of its terroir, a modern interpretation of Roman winemaking tradition, yet with a profoundly respectful approach to nature. A wine that, undoubtedly, embodies the spirit of Abruzzo.
