About Casar de Burbia

Casar de Burbia is a red wine from the Bierzo region, produced by Casar de Burbia.

This wine is made using only grapes of the Mencía (100%) variety. The grapes used are taken from plots of the Finca Valdepiñeiro, with are situated 400-600 metres above sea level.

The harvest and pressing of the grapes is done manually. Alcoholic fermentation then takes place at a controlled maximum temperature of 24-25ºC in small tanks of 10,000 litres. After this, the wine is aged for 8 months in new American oak barrels.

Casar de Burbia is a good option if you want to discover the wonder of the Mencía grape from Bierzo.
2009 In the mouth, this red wine is thick, tannic and tasty. It shows a good acidity which apart from providing it with liveliness and joy, guarantees a good ageing. The notes of raspberries and cherries stand out on the hints of caramel provided by the American oak. An intense, honest and direct Spanish wine, with ripe tannins. Persistent finish with a very nice slightly astringent touch.


Bright and clean purple-red colour with a high robe and abundant tears.

Powerful aromas with a marked varietal character. Its abundant notes of ripe red fruit are mixed with spices, balsamic notes and roasted aromas provided by the barrels. Some hints of undergrowth and a good mineral background are also noticed. Very balanced and harmonious aromatic set.
2008 A very tasty wine, sweet and very rich wine with a broad, powerful and bulky attack. It coats the mouth with lots of juicy notes of fleshy fruit well balanced with the aromas provided by the oak. Wine with a silky texture, a good acidity and ripe tannins. Its lingering finish shows an astringent but very nice touch.

Intense cherry purple colour with purple edges. Clean and bright wine with dense tears.

Powerful aromas with a marked varietal style. Its abundant notes of ripe black fruits are mixed with aromas of toffees, spices and excellent toasted oak. A hint of undergrowth and good balsamic aromas are also felt. A very balanced and harmonious nose.
2007 Intense and bulky at the attack. It has a silky, very tasty and fresh mid palate in which the balsamic notes and the fruit dominate over the aromas of wood. The mineral notes are noticed again. Good acidity and ripe tannins. It has touch of astringency which is not displeasant. Good finish.

Dark cherry colour with purple reflections. High layer. Clean and bright wine with dense tears that stain the glass.

Powerful and complex aromas. The intense and ripe fruit is balanced with the balsamic notes. Good aromas provided by the wood: spices and toffee. Very mineral wine.
2006 The bouquet is intense and persistent, and the French oak overwhelms the slight traces of spice. The mix of aromas and flavors, along with its texture, make this wine a complex symphony of sensations.

Red purple bright and clean, great coat, with tears that show glyceride content.

Noticeable aromas of raspberry, moving the cup, vanilla of American Oak aging process appears in perfect balance with the fruit.
