About Santa Castaño

Santa is a red wine from the D.O Yecla produced by the Castaño winery. This win is a blend of two different grape varieties: Monastrell (90%) and Garnacha Tintorera (10%).
 

The grapes used for this wine come from vines that are over 45 years old, which grow at 750 metres above sea level, with a south facing orientation, on stony and sandy soils on a limestone base. The vines are cultivated with short pruning on bush vines. Yield is around 1,500-2,000 kilos of grapes per hectare, with the density of the plantation around 1,600 vines again per hectare.
 

After the harvest has been carried out, the grapes undergo fermention for 16 days at controlled temperatures of 26º-28ºC. The must then undergoes a phase of malolactic fermentation. Santa is then aged for 10 months in French and American oak barrels.

Santa is without a doubt one of the most renowned wines from the D.O. Yecla. Smooth, elegant, fine, it is simply unforgettable.

The Castaño winery, founded in 1950, was one of the first wineries in the region to buck the trend of bulk wine and begin bottling their wines. The success of their initiative is evident, with 90% of their production exported and sold outside of Spain. 

2013 Refined and velvety, with an outstanding structure. Superb acidity and vivacity, harmoniously smooth, culminating in a delightful and extensive finish.
