About Castro Candaz Mencía

Castro Candaz Mencía is a red wine produced by Raúl Pérez from his project in D.O. Ribeira Sacra, Castro Candaz.

Castro Candaz Mencía is one of the wines made by Raúl Pérez with his good friend, oenologist Rodrigo Méndez, within the collection of Castro Candaz. The aim of the wines of Castro Candaz is to show the potential of the traditional varieties of Ribeira Sacra, mainly the Mencía, and to reflect in their wines the place where they are born.

Castro Candaz Mencía is a wine made from 100% Mencía . Harvest is performed by hand and the winemaking process is carried out in the traditional way, applying minimum intervention. This way, they seek the maximum expression of the variety and the character of the land where the vines grow. Once the alcoholic fermentation has finished,it is aged for 6 months in 500-litre used barrels.

2016

Castro Candaz Mencía 2016 is a balanced, fresh and elegant wine. The good work performed in the vineyard and its ageing in used large barrels allow it to preserve the freshness of the fruit and the character of the terroir. A very good vintage.
