About Castro Candaz A Boca do Demo

Castro Candaz A Boca do Demo is a red wine from the D.O. Ribeira Sacra produced by Raúl Pérez. This wine is made using only Mencía (100%) grapes.

Castro Candaz A Boca do Demo was conceived at the hands of Raúl Pérez: a winemaker who spent his early career in El Bierzo, where he scored an outstanding 98 Parker Points for the 2005 vintage of Ultreia de Valtuille. Just the mention of his name rings connotations of success, with his wines renowned all over the globe. This collection Castro Candaz, from the D.O. Ribeira Sacra, is a collaboration with another known winemaker, and friend, Rodrigo Méndez.

Cultivated in the municipality of Chantada, the grapes used to make Castro Candaz A Boca do Demo are grown on sandy soils located on steep slopes. The local climate receives Atlantic influences, even in the areas close to the riverbeds are usually warmer.

After the harvest has taken place and they have been transported to the winery, the grapes undergo fermentation. Following this, the wine is aged in chestnut wood vats. The vinification and manufacturing processes are carried out using traditional methods, drawing on the experience of the two oenologists in charge of the project.

2016 Castro Candaz A Boca do Demo 2016 is a concentrated, elegant and fresh red wine. Once again, Rodrigo and Raúl manage to find in this vintage the perfect balance between maturity and freshness. Powerful on the nose, with fresh red fruit and a very elegant mineral background. With an ample mid-palate, it gives way to a fluidity and rectitude that ends in a very long finish.
2013 Indulgent and fruity. It presents itself as well-rounded and enticing, with an effortless drinkability.

Dark and opaque, akin to a cherry hue.

Fleshy notes with cherry undertones. Floral hints accompanied by memories of black pepper.
