About Cavarodes Arbois Trousseau Lumachelles

More and more small winemakers are daring to create their own wines in search of the maximum expression of the terroir. Cult winemakers who become famous and see the demand for their wines increase, which means their limited productions become scarcer. In recent times the Jura region has acquired a quasi-cult status and among the new top wave of winemakers we find Etienne Thibaud, a man truly devoted to wine who, after working for several years with Pascal and Evelyne Clairet of Domaine de la Tournelle, set up on his own in the north of Arbois, in Cramans in 2007, to start his own project Domaine des Cavarodes. With only 4.5 hectares of vineyards (ranging in age from 15 to 115 years old) and minimal intervention winemaking, he achieves wines of astonishing purity that reflect the terroir they come from on both sides of the Loue River and across the Arbois.

One of his small productions is Cavarodes Arbois Trousseau Lumachelles is a wine made in the AOC Arbois that comes from a vineyard, Lumachelles, in the commune of Mouchard, north of Arbois. These are old vines of the Trousseau variety, planted in soils mainly of marine fossils (Kimmeridgien), which are cultivated according to organic principles and biodynamic treatments. Using herbal infusions and carrying out each of the processes in line with the lunar calendar, he produces a pure and honest raw material ready for winemaking.

In the winery, a large foudre is used both for the slow, natural fermentation of Cavarodes Arbois Trousseau Lumachelles in carbonic maceration and for its aging on the lees for 12 months. Finally, the wine is bottled without filtering, clarifying or adding sulphites.

Aiming for freshness and typicity, Etienne Thibaud surprises us with Cavarodes Arbois Trousseau Lumachelles, a small production single-variety wine that stands out for its great purity.

 

2018

Cavarodes Arbois Trousseau Lumachelles 2018 is an elegant red wine exuding aromas of ripe red fruit, herbaceous undertones, and smoky nuances. On the palate, it is vibrant, light, and pure. This wine boasts a generous body with a tannic structure that is both pronounced yet smooth and silky. The finish is taut and extended.
