About Cayuse Armada Syrah

Cayuse Armada Syrah is a biodynamic red wine made with the Syrah variety by Cayuse Vineyards in Walla Walla Valley, Washington (USA).
 
After studying in Bordeaux and Champagne, Cristophe Baron decided to set up his own project with Cayuse Vineyards when he discovered the stony terroir in the Walla Walla Valley and its similarities to the terroir in the southern wine regions of the Rhone Valley and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Following the Bordeaux style, his wines are limited productions that are sought after all around the world. 
 
Cayuse Armada Syrah comes from a 2.5 hectare vineyard that was planted in 2001. It has always been organically cultivated without using chemicals and it has been worked biodynamically since 2002. This is the first domain in the valley to apply the principles of Rudolph Steiner. Here, the land, plants and animals coexist in a closed and balanced ecosystem.
 
Once the grapes have been manually harvested, they are meticulously selected and the Cayuse Armada Syrah winemaking process begins. The grapes firstly ferment with native yeasts at a controlled temperature and then the wine is aged in wooden barrels. 
 
Cayuse Armada Syrah is an honest wine infused with minerality and with its own identity. This is a collectable Syrah that is usually only available through the winery’s private list, but it is now available at Decántalo. 

 

 
2017

Cayuse Armada Syrah 2017 is a concentrated red wine. The nose is complex and very expressive, with aromas of blackberry, black tea, black pepper, lilac and dried lavender. The palate is seductive, elegant and medium-bodied with round tannins. Salty notes and flavours of dried strawberries, chocolate and walnut. Long and delicious finish.
2016 Cayuse Armada Syrah 2016 is a concentrated red wine with intense aromas of cherry, herbaceous background notes and delicate hints of smoke and spices. On the palate it is medium-bodied and deep with a beautiful structure. It reveals a silky texture, incredible mineral tension, and a long, spicy finish.
2015 Cayuse Armada Syrah 2015 is a concentrated red wine with deep aromas of dried cherries, notes of peat, cured touches and hints of spice. On the palate it is flavoursome, voluminous and well-rounded. A medium-bodied wine with a somewhat wild style, a beautiful texture, and an opulent feel. The finish is long, persistent and broad. A collectible delight!
