About Cedro do Noval

You won’t succeed if you don’t take a risk. These people had courage and in 1931 their name became synonymous with quality and excellence. That year, under the shadow of the global recession and the wonderful surpluses of 1927, only three wineries dared to declare that year’s vintage. And Quinta do Noval was one of them.

This brave gesture was the beginning of the fame and prestige of this winery, located on the left bank of the Pinhâo River in the Douro Valley (northern Portugal). There, on the high-altitude terraces (between 100 and 500 metres above sea level), grow 145 hectares of vineyards, classified as category A, on schist soil, mixed with some clay, planted with varieties like Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão, Syrah and Sousão.

This is the birthplace of Cedro do Noval, a red wine made in the D.O.C. Douro, which takes its name from the cedars that there are many of in the vineyards. This wine is vinified in stainless steel tanks, where it will ferment for 7 days. This will be followed by another malolactic fermentation. Finally, Cedro do Noval will be aged for 11 months in French oak barrels (8% of which are new).
