Tasting notes César Márquez El Val 2024
White wine Aged in wood. 12 months in French oak barrels 500 L.
César Márquez El Val 2024 dazzles with an enticing lemon-yellow hue that immediately beckons exploration. On the nose, it surprises with intense aromas of fruits such as peach and apricot, accompanied by white flowers and a hint of fresh lemon. The subtle spices add a layer of intriguing complexity. On the palate, it presents itself as delicate, with an enveloping texture that fills the mouth. Its finish is long, leaving a pleasant sensation that lingers. This wine is ideal for those seeking a white with a fresh character, yet with the sophistication of oak aging that enhances its aromatic and gustatory qualities.

About César Márquez El Val
Everyone assumes that if you're the nephew of a wine star, your path is already paved... but the reality is far less glamorous and involves much more mud-caked boots.
César Márquez is well aware of this. As the nephew of the renowned winemaker from El Bierzo, Raúl Pérez, one might think his story was predestined. However, when a surname carries such weight, the true challenge is not merely to arrive... but to forge your own identity without living in anyone's shadow.
And this is where the story becomes compelling: there are no shortcuts, just hard work, patience, and a profound passion for the land, El Bierzo
In 2015, César decided to shape his personal project. Yet, he did not start from scratch in spirit. Behind him lies no less than nine generations of a family devoted to viticulture, a legacy that is not boasted about, but diligently worked upon. Added to this is something crucial: the close support of his family and Raúl Pérez himself, who provided that initial push... although the journey had to be undertaken by him alone. The result is a winery with its own identity, born from tradition and personal character.
A prime example of his work is César Márquez El Val, a wine sourced from an extreme vineyard of merely 0.2 hectares at an altitude of 520 metres, with vines aged 125 years planted in clay-stony soils. These are old, small vineyards with a history that are not tamed, but understood. The winemaking process adheres to the same philosophy of respect. The godello variety undergoes fermentation in 500-litre barrels and is then aged for 12 months also in wood of the same size, seeking balance rather than dominance.
Thus, César Márquez El Val is a wine of character, depth, and finesse, where the concentration of the old vineyard is combined with precise craftsmanship. A style that does not seek to imitate anyone, but to speak with its own voice. Because in the end, it is not about surnames or long shadows. It is about proving, bottle by bottle, that talent is also crafted.
