About Charly Nicolle Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu

In an ever-changing world where the new quickly goes out of fashion, maintaining tradition can be a real challenge. However, historical traditions are our identity and we need it as a reference in our lives. Charly Nicolle, a young winegrower from the village of Fleys, near Chablis (Burgundy), likes to cultivate the vines like his father and grandfather did, and therefore continues the family tradition in his 16 hectares of vineyards spread over four denominations: Petit Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru “Mont de Milieu”, Chablis Premier Cru “Les Fourneaux” and Grand Cru “Bougro”. A passion for the vineyard, which he has had since he was a child, has given him the courage to make his own wines.

One of his works is Charly Nicolle Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu, a Chardonnay wine from a Premier Cru located on the right bank of Chablis, specifically Mont de Milieu, a hill that used to separate the county of Champagne and the Duchy of Burgundy. The vines are an average of 30 years old and are planted in clay and limestone soils that are traditionally cultivated by Charly himself. In the winery, the grapes ferment in stainless steel tanks for 30 days with their lees at a controlled temperature of 16 to 18ºC. It then undergoes malolactic fermentation and finally ages for 12 months in stainless steel tanks in contact with its lees.

Charly Nicolle Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu 2017 is an exquisitely structured white wine, redolent with scents of succulent yellow fruit at the peak of ripeness, nuances of acacia blossoms, and hints of butter and quince. On the palate, it is powerful, fruit-forward, and richly layered. This wine is sophisticated, graceful, and culminates in a distinctly mineral finish.
