About Château Talbot Connetable de Talbot

In addition to being an esteemed négociant and vigneron, Désiré Cordier was a marketing visionary. Keenly observant and astute, he noted that statistics indicated the residents of Saint-Julien boasted a lifespan exceeding the national average. "The data compellingly suggests that Médoc, and more specifically Saint-Julien, is the veritable land of octogenarians, conclusively proving that wine—and in this context, fine wine—is, as I have always asserted, the elixir of longevity!" he declared. Thus, through wines such as Château Talbot Connetable de Talbot, both Cordier and his enterprise achieved a form of immortality. However, despite being a pioneer in marketing and advertising, the fame of Château Talbot was not simply fortuitous. All accolades and recognition are the fruits of striking the perfect balance between tradition and innovation. This ideal synergy is evident today in the expansive winery, completed in 2016, with a capacity to house approximately 1,800 barrels.
 
Touted as one of the finest second wines of Médoc, Château Talbot Connetable de Talbot emerged in the 1960s and since then, much like Château Talbot (the premier wine), it has become an essential offering from this esteemed house. As the adage goes: the sequel is not necessarily inferior to the original. Château Talbot Connetable de Talbot embodies much more: a passion, a lifetime of dedication, and an increasingly meticulous cultivation in the vineyard which, year after year, continues to enhance the qualities and calibre of this red wine.
 
Just to the north, straddling the border between the A.O.C. Saint-Julien and the A.O.C. Pauillac, lies the cradle of Château Talbot Connetable de Talbot, spanning 110 hectares owned by the family. At the helm today is Nancy Bignon Cordier, the great-granddaughter of Désiré and the current proprietor of the business, who also oversees the entire production process: from the fields to bottling, and crucially, the blending—a pivotal moment to achieve the precise varietal percentages that reflect the labor and effort invested in the vineyard. For Château Talbot, the estate is meticulously cultivated in separate parcels, each at its own pace, allowing each vine the time it needs to reach full maturity. Predominantly red varieties are grown (occupying 105 hectares) with cabernet sauvignon leading (covering 66% of the area), followed by merlot (30%) and petit-verdot (4%). All thrive on fine gravel soils with excellent drainage, underlain by a limestone core rich in fossils, endowing these wines with a remarkable virtue: the ability to be perfectly enjoyable both young and after maturation. Château Talbot Connetable de Talbot ferments in stainless steel vats and is aged for over a year in French oak barrels. But take our word for it, this red would not suffer without this rest period. What is good is good, regardless of form. And Château Talbot Connetable de Talbot is one of those good things.
