About Christian Tschida Felsen I

Nowadays, juicy, low-alcohol, and elegant wines are in vogue. However, 25 years ago, the Parker style—powerful, alcoholic, and with prolonged barrel ageing—dominated the scene. Back then, deviating from this standard meant your wine would not be taken seriously. Fortunately, although it wasn't easy at first, new talents who dared to break away have started to gain recognition for their meticulous and respectful work, both in the vineyard and the winery. A prime example of this revolution is Christian Tschida, a nature enthusiast whose early wines, crafted in 2003, were initially only accepted by a local bank that chose to serve them at business lunches due to their low alcohol content, thus preventing diners from being affected by alcohol. What began as a pragmatic decision has now become a symbol of distinction and quality. Today, Tschida's wines are not only accepted; they are sought after by consumers who appreciate authenticity and freshness in every glass, heralding the dawn of a new era in the world of wine.

His wine Christian Tschida Felsen I is a single-varietal of blaufränkisch that originates from an ancient lime quarry with sandy gravel soils containing slate and limestone. It is cultivated organically with organic and biodynamic treatments, and the harvest is done manually at the optimal moment of ripeness. In the winery, selected grapes, some destemmed and others left with stems, are foot-trodden, and the juice ferments in oak vats with indigenous yeasts and without racking. Finally, the wine ages in 500-litre barrels and is bottled without fining, filtering, or added sulphur.

Christian Tschida Felsen I is the result of a process where nature and the environment dictate the pace, maximally respecting the essence of the grape and the terroir. This work not only represents a rebellion against the dominant styles of past decades but also stands as a benchmark of contemporary viticulture, championing originality and absolute respect for the raw material.
