About Clunia Tempranillo

Archaeological site located in the town of Peñalba de Castro, in Burgos (Castile and León), the Clunia Sulpicia settlement was one of the most important towns in the north of Hispania in the 1st century BC. In its surroundings grow the vineyards from the winery of the same name, Clunia, in honor of the ancient Roman settlement. A project with its own facilities since 2014, in the Burgos town of Coruña del Conde, its productions are relatively small and of great honesty.

Specifically, the red wine Clunia Tempranillo comes from 10 hectares of vineyards with clay-limestone soils planted in 1999 at 950 meters above sea level. Its oenologist, Pablo Pávez, limits the yield to 4,000 kilograms per hectare and through traditional agriculture, achieves a Tempranillo grape with its own character.

After manual harvest with double selection of bunches and berries, Clunia Tempranillo undergoes alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. The wine is then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. The result is a fruity and silky single varietal Tempranillo wine with a different character from this main variety in Spain, which is included in the Country Wines from Castile and Léon.

 

2015

Clunia Tempranillo 2015 is a concentrated red wine with outstanding aromas of red fruit, notes of vanilla and cocoa and balsamic hints. On the palate, it’s silky, round and long. A long wine with a significant fruit weight and pleasant tannins. The finish is lingering and persistent.

Displays a deep ruby hue.

Red fruit presence complemented by the distinctive nuances of barrel aging. Notes of vanilla and cocoa with balsamic undertones.
