About Contino Gran Reserva

In 1973, Cvne and the family who own the winery created the first Rioja "chateau". Viñedos del Contino forms a set of vineyards surrounding an old country house, in a curve of the river Ebro. Their wines are made exclusively from the vines planted in their 62 hectares of land, located in Laserna, near Laguardia, in the Rioja Alavesa. Contino Gran Reserva is made from grapes selected from the vineyards surrounding the house, with over 60 years old Tempranillo vines. After being destemmed the grapes ferment in concrete deposits and macerate for 15 to 20 days. The malolactic fermentation takes place in new barrels. The wine is then put into French and American oak barrels where it ages for over two years, followed by three years of ageing in the bottle in the winery's cellars before being released onto the market.
2016 Contino Gran Reserva 2016 is a deep and balanced red wine. On the nose, its fruity power is nicely accompanied by floral and herbal nuances. The palate is powerful but elegant, with a broad and silky finish. Undoubtedly a great red wine from Rioja with excellent aging potential.
2005 This is a tasty red wine. The wood from its ageing is perfectly integrated into the wine, making it balanced and silky on the palate. A long and fresh finish, with lots of black fruit and balsamic notes felt at retro-olfaction.

Lively ruby red colour, bright and intense with maroon edges.

Intense aromas of black fruit, red plums, blackberries and something liqueur-like. It gradually gains in complexity with spicy notes, nuances of cocoa and chocolate, liquorice and fine toasted notes appearing.
2004 A concentrated, elegant, full bodied and very tasty wine with an excellent tasty and embracing attack. Its long mid palate is marked by a good load of fruity aromas, noble toasted notes and very nice spices. Very well structured wine, with a balanced acidity and ripe integrated tannins. Very long finish with a great persistence.  An excellent wine that deserves a special occasion. To be enjoyed in special moments.

Intense red cherry colour with edges of the same color and some tile red reflections. Bright wine with a high robe and elegant tears.

Elegant, complex and very intense aromas. Before swirling the glass, intense notes of very ripe black fruit are noticed along with spicy notes and a first toasted touch. When it opens up, a wide range of spices is released with hints of coffee, tobacco, more expressive fruit with a subtle hint of liquor and mineral notes. An elegant grassy background is also noticed.
